Primordial gravitational waves from excited states

چکیده

We show that a scalar excited state with large occupation numbers during inflation leads to an enhancement of tensor modes and characteristic pattern order-one oscillations in the associated stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) sourced inflation. An effective state, i.e. departure from Bunch-Davies vacuum, can emerge dynamically as result transient non-adiabatic evolution, e.g. sharp feature along inflationary history. provide explicit example multifield context where triggering is identified strong turn trajectory. En passant, we derive universal expression for power spectrum at second order by arbitrary number degrees freedom inflation, crucially taking into account nontrivial structure Hilbert space setups. The SGWB overcome standard scalar-induced horizon re-entry fluctuations after while being less constrained perturbativity backreaction bounds. In addition, one may entertain possibility detecting both since they peak different frequencies exhibiting distinct periods.

Primordial Gravitational Waves From Open Inflation

We calculate the spectrum of gravitational waves generated during inflation in open (Ω0 < 1) inflationary models. In such models an initial epoch of old inflation solves the horizon and flatness problems, and during this first epoch of inflation the quantum state of the graviton field rapidly approaches the Bunch-Davies vacuum. Then old inflation ends by the nucleation of a single bubble, insid...

Probing polarization states of primordial gravitational waves with CMB anisotropies

We discuss the polarization signature of primordial gravitational waves imprinted in cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. The high-energy physics motivated by superstring theory or M-theory generically yields parity violating terms, which may produce a circularly polarized gravitational wave background (GWB) during inflation. In contrast to the standard prediction of inflation with u...

Primordial gravitational waves and cosmology.

The observation of primordial gravitational waves could provide a new and unique window on the earliest moments in the history of the universe and on possible new physics at energies many orders of magnitude beyond those accessible at particle accelerators. Such waves might be detectable soon, in current or planned satellite experiments that will probe for characteristic imprints in the polariz...

Polarized cosmological gravitational waves from primordial helical turbulence.

We show that helical turbulence produced during a first-order phase transition generates circularly polarized cosmological gravitational waves (GWs). The characteristic frequency of these GWs for an extreme case of the phase transition model is around 10(-3)-10(-2) Hz with an energy density parameter as high as 10(-12)-10(-11). The possibility of detection is briefly discussed.

CBR anisotropy from primordial gravitational waves in inflationary cosmologies.

We examine stochastic temperature fluctuations of the cosmic background radiation (CBR) arising via the Sachs-Wolfe effect from gravitational wave perturbations produced in the early universe. These temperature fluctuations are described by an angular correlation function C(γ). A new (more concise and general) derivation of C(γ) is given, and evaluated for inflationary-universe cosmologies. Thi...
